How to perform a correct facial cleansing? (I)

How to perform a correct facial cleansing?

The first thing we have to take into account when cleaning our face is that our skin has a natural protection layer, called "hydrolipid mantle" or "acid mantle" due to the rather acidic pH of our skin or pH 5.5.

We do not see it but it is there and performs a very important function of protecting our skin against external agents (pollution, sun) not allowing it to become unbalanced and thus avoiding pathologies of any kind (atopic skin, rosacea, redness, peeling...) .

That means any facial or body cleanser you use should have a pH of 5.5 or as close to it as possible.

Otherwise, we will destroy that hydrolipidic layer, which will leave our skin unprotected and the possibility that it will become unbalanced, causing the pathologies mentioned above.

For facial cleansing, we should always avoid traditional bar soaps, since this type of soap, although it is handmade and formulated with natural ingredients, usually has a very high pH.

To date, no way has been found to formulate a bar soap with a pH of 5.5.

You must bear in mind that the skin on your face is 5 times thinner than that of your body, so it is extremely important that you use a facial cleanser that is as respectful as possible with your face.

In this way, you will achieve a healthy and better-looking skin for a long time.

That is why we recommend that you never use a bar soap for facial cleansing, but rather a specific cleanser for the face that is more respectful.

Even in liquid soaps where it indicates “neutral pH”, this refers to a pH of 7 or higher, since the neutral pH is pH 7, however our skin does not have a pH of 7, but rather a pH of 5.5.

The higher the pH of a cleaning product, the more we unprotect our skin from the natural acid mantle and the more exposed it is to external aggressions of any kind.

The more aggression our skin receives, the sooner the symptoms of aging will begin.

How many times a day should I wash my face?

In the same way that oral hygiene should be done at least twice a day (morning and night), the same thing happens with facial cleaning. You should wash your face at least every morning and every night to remove the toxins that accumulate during the day as well as the pollution that accumulates in any city today.

If you put on a moisturizer without having your face first, you will re-introduce all those toxins that your body has eliminated along with the pollution accumulated on your skin from all day.

In this article you will find more information about why facial cleansing is so important in your skin care routine.

That is why it is very important that before moisturizing your skin with a facial cream (or with a facial gel, if you have oily skin), you wash your face well with a facial cleanser.

EThis facial cleanser must be formulated without sulfates and with a pH of 5.5.

Why a natural facial cleanser?

A 100% natural and ecological facial cleanser, such as of our Extra Gent's, must be always formulated without sulfates.

Sulfate is the ingredient that acts as a detergent and therefore drags grease and dirt.

The problem is that sulfate is an ingredient that is too aggressive for our skin, especially that of our face, which, as we have already mentioned before, the skin of the face is 5 times thinner than that of our body.

We replace sulfates with "glycosides" or sugar derivatives, thus achieving a product that is just as effective and highly respectful of your skin.

As we have already mentioned before, it is very important that your facial cleanser has a pH of 5.5, since just the fact that it is a natural product does not guarantee that it has a pH of 5.

Ideally, your facial cleanser should be certified organic to ensure that it only contains vegetable oils, plant extracts and essential oils, and does not contain petroleum derivatives or other agents that may be too aggressive for your skin.
